We are happy to report that Isaiah Cargill spent the night at school at Parsons Paris. The school was on lockdown. Later the next day he was escorted to his apartment. He reports that these frightening events will stay with him and hopes that he can turn them into a positive influence on his life in design.
We wish only safety, success and strength for Isaiah, the art students and the people of France.

Art Awards and Silent Auction
It was
a packed house at the Alper JCC as The Fund 4 Design and Art Education awarded
twelve deserving Miami-Dade County high school seniors with a $1,000 check to
their respective colleges. The second annual Art Awards & Silent Auction,
which took place on Sunday, May 30, also awarded six talented young artists
with the AMAZING Sketchbook Award.
The
mission of The Fund 4 Design & Art Education is to further the creative
development of art students by providing art materials, guidance, and financial
assistance. In a little under two years the Fund has awarded
over $30,000 in Isaiah Scholarships and many AMAZING Sketchbook Awards. 100% of
all donations are directed to art kids!
The
Fund, which started as a little idea, by retired art teachers Marlene Kohn and
Marilyn Traeger has grown thanks to the generous support of the Art Education
Department, Miami-Dade County Public Schools; The Dade Art Educators
Association; The Alper JCC; Blick Art Materials; DASH; our energetic and
enthusiastic student & adult
Volunteers; and our big-hearted donors.
Congratulations to the winners of the Isaiah Scholarships given
annually to talented students who have created diligently throughout their high
school years and are continuing their studies in colleges and universities
around the world.

At
the end of the event members of the Fund received startling news when one of
the Scholars indicated that she might not be able to attend her school of
choice. She is $5,000 short despite the $50,000 she already has been awarded in
scholarships and loans. We told her that we would find a way. This is an
excerpt of her application. “I learned
that emotional and financial pains are transient and that if you choose to
keeping working hard, you will prevail.” The Fund is still working hard to help
her. Please consider donating a little or a lot to make her artistic dream come
true. Donate on our website or mail a check to Dade Art Educators Association 879 Eastwood Drive | Miami Springs, FL 33166.
